Carpet Moth Brisbane.
The carpet moth all so known as the clothes moth (Tineola blisselliella) is a small moth whose adults grow to between 1 and 2 cm in length, the female will lay several hundred during her lifetime the eggs them selves are tiny most only 1mm long,
Once eggs are laid and hatches the lava will immediately search for food which includes cotton, linen, silk and wool fabrics, depending on conditions and food supply it can take two months or up to two years, each larva will eventually spin a cocoon in which it will pupate to form into an adult . The moths like to hide in carpeting, baseboards (skirting) and under and around household Furnishings.
Both adults and larvae prefer dark or low light conditions.
It is little known is that the adults Carpet Moths do not eat. The Larvae are the ones that are responsible for causing damages to clothing and or fabric and spend their entire time eating and foraging for food.
Males look for females with whom to mate and females look for places to lay their eggs. Once reproduction is done, they die.
